Tanjong Pagar United (The Jaguars)


Quick Facts:
Before their withdrawal from the S-League, Tanjong Pagar were once had a strong rivalry with powerhouse SAFFC. The Jaguars, in spite of winning cup after cup, were never champions of the S-League. Now, the Jaguars are back and will be playing their home games at Clementi Stadium. Eventhough they will assemble a totally new team full of youngsters, the Jaguars can be assured that the fans that used to support them back in their days at Queenstown will head west to lend their voices.

Quick Facts:
Like Home United, SAFFC rarely fails to be near or at the pinnacle of the S-League every season. They hold the honour of being the first Singaporean team to play in the Asian Champions League and of course the tag of the most successful club in S-League history with 8 titles. The Warriors, who used to play their home matches at the Jurong Stadium, now call Choa Chu Kang their home. Known to have a good scouting network particularly in eastern Europe, SAFFC have that brand name appeal to attract the best local players. Coached by former player Richard Bok, the Warriors also have one of the best fan clubs around.

Marine Castle, Sengkang Marine,Sengkang Punggol and finally Hougang United. The Dolphins are no more. The Cheetahs are here! Lets hope that the name stays. Affectionately known as the Tigers, this Toa Payoh based outfit is form through the merging of Balestier Central and Clementi Khalsa. Were once the powerhouse in Singapore football in her earlier days and once boasted the likes of Hasnim Haron, Nasir and Nasarudin Jalil, Majid Ariff and notable foreigners like Esad Sedjic and Goran Paulic in their ranks. Now a club that usually lies in mid-table at best, Balestier is well known to give youngsters thet they have scouted and groomed, valuable opportunities to play professional football.

Etoile FC (The Stars)



Quick Facts:

Like them or not, many will agree that the Stars have injected life into the S-League with their good football and their strong French following. Following a very successful season in 2010, many players have left the Queenstown based team. But with the charismatic chairman in Johan Gouteffangas, fans of Etoile FC need not worry. Their short passing style has won many local fans as well but even so, many local fans still love to have a dig at them. Lets hope they stay for years to come with their ever refreshing ideas.

Quick Facts:
Formed in 2003, the Young Lions was formed in order to prepare the national under 23 side before they make the step up to the national team proper. Young Lions are known by many to produce an exciting brand of football but nevertheless, inconsistencies prove to be their stumbling block in finishing high in the S-League. The closest they came was in 2006 when they had the likes of Agu Casmir, Khairul Amri, Shahril Ishak and Baihakki Khaizan in the squad. Nevertheless, their loyal fans have accepted the fact that their team will never be title challengers. Always a team to watch in every single S-League season!

They may no longer be known as the Venga Boys but Woodlands Wellington still are a club that is sure to give you surprises. Former notable players include V.Sundramoorthy, Ervin Boban, Tamil Marren, Daniel Bennett and Goh Tat Chuan and this says alot about the rich history of the Woodlands based side. Many S-League fans miss the days of the heated rivalry between them and their nothern rivals, Sembawang Rangers. One of the oldest (founded in 1945) and best supported clubs around, Tampines Rovers have also the luxury of having one of the unsung heroes of Singapore football as their chairman in Mr Teo Hock Seng. Home United (The Protectors)


Quick Facts:
Formerly known as Police FC, Home United is one of the two uniformed groups clubs in the S-League. Always one of the favourites for the title, the Protectors however have underachieved recently. The days of Robert Alberts are now seen as a distant memory but with a team that boasts national team players and quality foreigners, Home United should be somewhere at the top at the end of the season. Moving back into their newly renovated home at Bishan, the Protectors are set to blow away their other title rivals.

Quick Facts:
Gombak United joined the S-League in 1998 and used to play their home games at Bukit Gombak Stadium. Due to financial difficulties, they were forced to sit out of the S-League for three seasons before rejoining back in 2006. Gombak United is a club that have shown that without star players, you can compete amongst the best but their inconsistencies year after year meant that they are hardly ever title challengers. Now coached by the competent Darren Stewart, the Bulls are becoming a force to be reckon with in the S-League.
